Day 9: Baby Bird
There are 15 milliliters in one tablespoon. While I've never been particularly adept at conversions, who knew I would ever need to know this one. With the problems she had yesterday in keeping down any food and the subsequent dehydration concerns, we received advice last night to feed her 1 tablespoon of formula every five minutes. The theory is that if she takes in such a small amount, it will be absorbed more quickly and will hopefully not be rejected. With the threat of needing to take her to the emergency room if she became too dehydrated, we quickly put the theory to the test.
Using a dropper that holds 1mL, we have been feeding Michal successfully without any "reversals" since last night. It seems that the dehydration concerns might be behind us, but we are keeping that dropper going and keeping a close watch.
