Today was the first birthday party for Michal's friend, Emily - yay, birthdays! We had lots of fun (and yummy pizza!), and Michal got to wear some pretty cute shoes. That I first bought back in March for a family wedding. For some reason, I bought them WITHOUT the baby with me, sort of guestimating what size she wore - I had no clue. I bought a size 4 - which meant pretty much nothing to me back then. They didn't fit her then - it was laughable, actually, how I couldn't even get them to stay on her feet. They ALMOST fit her now.
Happy Birthday, Emily!

Day 315: Well Baby Check-up
Cutie patootie mugging for the camera as we get ready to take the dog for a walk.
While she won't officially be 15 months until Tuesday (!!!), we had Michal's 15 month well baby check up today. If I haven't said it before, I'll say it here - we LOVE her doctor. She is super nice and is always happy to answer any of our questions. Oh, and she regularly tells us that Michal is perfect. How can we argue with that? But on a serious note, she lets us know when we need to worry. For example, when we mentioned that Michal isn't walking yet, she said she preferred for babies to be walking by 15 months but did not seem overly concerned, especially when we said that we thought that she COULD walk and just hadn't decided to do so yet. In other words, we're not concerned that there is an underlying reason for her not being ABLE to walk. She's just a content, laid back kid who hasn't decided that she NEEDS to walk. Not like how she NEEDS to climb everything in sight. She even tried to climb out of the bath tub last night. Holy moly.
Michal of course performed all of her tricks, showing off for Dr. H with all her words, even raising her arms for "touchdown!" Four shots today - 3 vaccines and her flu shot. While she cried a bit and was generally unhappy at being poked, she managed to wave "Bye!" and blow a kiss to the nurse as she left the room. What an awesome kid.
Today's stats:
Height: 31 3/4" (just shy of the 90th percentile)
Height: 31 3/4" (just shy of the 90th percentile)
Weight: 24 lbs. 13 oz. (about 75th percentile)
Head circumference: 18 1/2" (about 75th percentile)

Day 314: Tooth Brush Torture
Michal has a billion teeth. Well, 16 really, but it seems like a billion. We have always had a good routine of brushing her teeth. She loves touching the toothbrush, running her finger over the bristles. She doesn't seem to have much interest in trying to brush her teeth herself, and lately she has barely tolerated having her teeth brushed at all. Too bad for her, she has little choice in the matter!
What have I done to deserve this torture?
No more tooth brushing or I'll come and get you!

Day 313: Just Hanging
I have a feeling amusement parks with roller coasters are in our future - the kid loves to be upside down, to fling herself backwards through the air, somersault all over the place, and generally experience the feeling of free falling. Can't blame her - it's all fun stuff!
Tonight, in an effort to entertain a thoroughly cranky kid, I let her fall backwards a few times (obviously holding and supporting her). She loved it. Bailey was a bit put off - he kept running around, barking at her as if she was no longer someone he knew. Or perhaps he was concerned this inverted position would allow her some super power that he needed to ward off. Either way, it was a hilarious few moments.

Day 312: Evil Genius?
She's getting to be such a big kid. She seems to have opinions about some things, like throwing her sandwiches bits onto the ground - as well as some of the chewed up bits she spit out. Her signing is still going strong, although she hasn't really gained many new signs. She currently has "milk," "please," and "more" and uses them all the time. Her verbal vocabulary is growing as well - some identifiable, some not so much. She says, in some form: please, teeth, cheese, hi, bye, light, Bailey (bah-buh), touchdown (ptowtuh), beep, and a few others I'm forgetting.
But today's crowning achievement? The baby is a tech wizard. Apparently she reprogrammed the video monitor so that she deleted the camera from it. As in, if we turned on the monitor, we wouldn't have any image to see because it was no longer connected to the camera in the room. Josh had to figure out how to reprogram it. I wish I were kidding. Genius.

Day 311: First Day of School
Today was Michal's first day of school (or day care - whatever you want to call it. Since this one is called a learning academy, I'm going with school). She has not been at a day care since the last week of August, instead hanging out with me and helping me with my work. If you have ever had a fourteen month old help you with your job, you can imagine how that has gone. It has been an experience, to say the least, and after an incredibly insane experience trying to get her school lined up, it feels amazing to finally have something actually work out.
So today was her first day, and I was a blubbery mess. You'd think we had never been apart. Even so, there were tears today - all on my part - and she had a great day, playing and learning. Napping, not so much apparently. I'm sure with time it will all work itself out.
New tricks - Michal LOVES to climb. I think it is her absolutely favorite thing to do right now. She gets mad if we don't let her climb up the stairs whenever she wishes. Newest in the area of climbing - step stool. I didn't even know she could do this until one day, last week, I found her doing something like this:
Today it was the Hebrew letter magnets on the refrigerator, but she'll climb even if the stool isn't next to anything interesting. Our chill kid is becoming just a bit more adventurous, and we really can't take our eyes off of her for any amount of time. If it isn't the step stool or stairs, it's her other favorite new toy - the dog's food and water bowls. Oy.

Day 310: Life is Like a Box of Raspberries
Such a silly goose! We took a trip to Costco recently to stock up on a few necessities, and grabbed a cardboard box to help carry our items out to the car. Well, Michal not only found the box, but she pulled it down and found a way to sit down in it. Considering she isn't walking yet, it was funny watching her try to find a way into her newly found toy, but she definitely did it! I'm not entirely sure what was so enticing about this box, but I definitely got a kick out of her blowing raspberries while in it - it originally held just that - raspberries! Our little raspberry is much cuter, though. I might be biased.
